Requirements
Basic Requirements
- Be a member of a Southern Baptist Church in Oklahoma that is in cooperation with the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma.
Be actively involved in the music ministry of that same local church. - The prospective member must be attested to by the pastor, music director, and/or additional leadership of the church (Church Ministry Involvement Form). There will be no exceptions to being a member of a Southern Baptist Church. However, exceptions to the active involvement of the prospective member may include the following:
- The church does not have an ongoing music ministry. If this is the case, the prospective member must be involved in active ministry approved by the church in which she holds membership.
- The prospective member is involved in a ministry that regularly takes her away from the local church where she has her membership (example: interim teaching or worship leading ministry in churches).
- Pass an audition process that includes a recorded or live vocal audition, an application process, and statement of recommendation from leaders of the church (Church Ministry Involvement Form) in which she is a member. Membership audition for the next season will be conducted following each in-state concert of the SCW. Recorded auditions will be accepted during May and June of each year.
- Attend the entire Fall Retreat. Introduction as a new member of the SCW at the Fall Retreat completes the membership process. New members will not be accepted until the next season’s Fall Retreat.
To Remain Active
- Attend the Fall Retreat or the scheduled make-up retreat. If a member is not able to attend the Fall Retreat she must notify the Worship and Music office at the BGCO of her intention to attend the make-up retreat.
- Have the Church Ministry Involvement Form filled out and mailed to the Worship and Music office at the BGCO. This will be an annual requirement.
- Commit to attend all scheduled rehearsals and concerts during the upcoming season. The official schedule will be released at the Fall Retreat and each member will be expected to calendar and give priority to being present for each concert.
- Notify the Worship and Music office at the BGCO if an emergency prevents you from attending a scheduled concert. We must be able to assist the church in planning for space and meals on the day of the concert.
- Attendance at rehearsals and concerts will be reviewed by the officers at our end-of-the-season meeting. Members who were unable to consistently participate in the ministry of the SCW will be notified of the decision to place them on inactive status, and will be required to interview by phone or in-person with the director of the SCW to be reinstated to active membership. If an inactive member makes a re-commitment to the ministry of the SCW, she will be introduced as a “returning member” at our annual Fall Retreat.
