Falls Creek is an amazing experience wrapped up in box with a ton of activities from which to choose. For first-timers, old-timers, and all of us in between, trying to plan your week can be overwhelming. There are mission breakouts, a cook-off, contests galore, sports, all that pin trading, and the list goes on!
Like your students, each church and their student ministry is unique. Creating a camp experience that fits your specific group of students is not a one size fits all approach. If you want to ensure that you tailor your week of camp for your group, it is not as daunting as you might think to create a customized plan. Here are a few tips:
Pray about where God is leading your student ministry
Is this a season of spiritual growth? Do they lack community? Maybe they have developed a spirit of boldness to share their faith. When it gets down to it, what do they need most in their walk right now?
Identify your camp activities
What activities will help your students reach the goal for the week? This might mean a little research, but its research well spent! Dig into that sponsor book and pick what helps steer your students closer to what God is calling them.
Find a good balance
Encourage both the fun and spiritual growth. If your students live at volleyball courts, encourage them to go to a breakout. Have some students that just want to go to keep to themselves day? Create a large group activity to get them involved. Don’t be afraid to mix it up with your own activities!
Don’t let the past back you into a corner
Shake it up, and don’t be afraid to try something new this year! Spiritual growth and bonding take place in some of the most obscure places sometimes. Stretch YOURSELF and try something new!
Ask your students
This is their week! Communicate what your goal is for the week and let them help in the planning process. Having ownership of their week will leave a lasting impression.
