BAPTIST COLLEGIATE MINISTRIES

BCM reaches students on 39 campuses across Oklahoma with the hope of the gospel. Staff build relationships in cafeterias, dorms, and classrooms. Many students come to know Christ, including international students who return home as gospel witnesses. Through discipleship and leadership development, students discover a call to ministry or missions. The State Missions Offering helps fund mission trips and equips these young leaders to impact the church and reach the world for Christ.

FOSTER CARE

The child welfare crisis in Oklahoma creates real and urgent needs. Through ministries like 111Project, churches respond to caseworker requests, providing beds, groceries, and clothing to families in crisis. These acts of service open doors for gospel conversations and lasting relationships. Even those who cannot foster can make a difference by supporting families in their community. The State Missions Offering helps churches meet practical needs and share Christ’s love with vulnerable children and families across Oklahoma.

MULTI-VOCATIONAL PASTORS

Multi-vocational pastors serve both their churches and communities, often working full-time jobs while faithfully leading small or rural congregations. They are a vital part of gospel ministry across Oklahoma. The State Missions Offering encourages and equips these pastors through training, connection, and practical support. By investing in MVPs, we strengthen local churches, expand outreach efforts, and ensure pastors have the tools they need to lead well in every area God has called them to serve.

Pray

Brokenness is an opportunity for Gospel advance. Pray for the brokenness in your community. Ask the Lord what role you can have in reaching others for Jesus.

Plan

While every church cannot meet every need, every church can meet a need. Through the offering, God has an open door for us to enter, shoulder to shoulder, to advance the Gospel. Set a goal to give as we embrace brokenness in our state.

Share

Together, we can increase awareness of opportunities to advance the Gospel. A powerful way to communicate the work Oklahoma Baptists are doing around our state is by sharing mission videos during church gatherings and on social media.

Support

100% of your gift advances the Gospel in Oklahoma. Give to the Edna McMillan State Missions Offering through your church.

Dear Oklahoma Baptists,

Every year, Oklahoma Baptist churches come together to participate in the Edna McMillan Oklahoma State Missions Offering, which propels key gospel missions and ministry across our state.

The State Missions Offering funds critical ministries that are reaching people for Jesus—ministries like Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief, Multi-vocational Pastors encouragement, Baptist Collegiate Ministries (BCM), and foster care ministry.

When you give to the State Missions Offering, you are investing directly in Kingdom work happening right here in Oklahoma.

In this church resources package, you will find ways to encourage your church members to pray, give, and serve.

Among the missions education resources provided here, you will find impactful videos that can be shown during a worship service that highlight the impact God is making through our combined efforts.

You will see stories of how Oklahoma Baptists, through the State Missions Offering, are:

  • Reaching students on 39 college campuses across Oklahoma with the gospel and discipleship ministries through Baptist Collegiate Ministries;
  • Supporting and serving multi-vocational and smaller-in-attendance church pastors who are making a gospel impact on their communities; and
  • Propelling foster care ministry and outreach in the local church, to help meet the urgent foster care needs in Oklahoma.

We also have included important prayer points and even missions education materials through which children can learn about missions happening in Oklahoma.

The Apostle Paul, in his letter to Timothy, said to “Instruct them to do what is good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and willing to share.” (1 Timothy 6:18). As churches, the Oklahoma State Missions Offering presents an opportunity for all of us to generously give and take part in missions in our state.

Thank you for all the ways you serve, minister, and lead.

About the Edna McMillan State Missions Offering

The State Missions Offering is named for one of its earliest advocates and mission pioneers, Edna McMillan. After graduating with honors from the Huntsville Female College in Alabama in 1890, Edna married a young Baptist man, George McMillan. She respected his quest for Godly character and was inspired when she first met him during a church service where he pledged a generous amount to a special missions offering.

Both of the McMillans became faithful stewards of their time and their resources. George served in church and worked in the oil business. They settled in Muskogee in 1902 and later spent most of their lives in Bristow. Edna held numerous roles in the church and worked diligently and tirelessly for Oklahoma Woman’s Missionary Union. She held many positions in WMU and served as state WMU president for 11 years from 1927 to 1938.

Edna was an effective communicator and consistently challenged Oklahoma Baptists to give generously to state missions. In 1932, she said, “A rich man is one who has enough for himself and enough left over to help others. Though he be possessed of millions, a man is poor, who has only enough for himself.”

The state WMU Board in 1939 met in Muskogee where Edna was surprised to hear the recommendation and later unanimous vote to name the State Mission Offering in her honor. Through her many travels and days away from home to champion mission cause, Edna never accepted a penny for her expenses.

“Children have great opportunities in their own neighborhoods and schools to love others and share the Good News of Jesus. The Missions Education Activity Sheets provide engaging activities to open young eyes to missions in their own backyards!” – Edna McMillan
