Our Mission
As the Oklahoma Baptist Discipleship Team, we strive to encourage, equip, and engage discipleship leaders in ministry across the state of Oklahoma. Let us work with you and your church on finding ways to partner together in developing strategies or training leaders to fulfill the Great Commission and make disciples!
Here are some ways that we can serve you:
Encourage
We love to walk alongside leaders and hear more about their church, context, and challenges in ministry. Working together with you, we can discover some fresh and creative ways to approach your discipleship ministry.
Equip
Have us come to your church and lead a training with your staff or group leaders in what it means to lead Sunday School, small groups, or other discipleship efforts. We also lead breakout sessions for associational events and other training conferences.
Engage
We work throughout the year to produce training resources like our Sunday School videos or discipleship guides located on our Resources Page.
Small Groups & Sunday School
God moves in big ways through small groups. Christ gave us, as followers of him, the Great Commission. So, as we are “going,” we will make disciples of all nations by sharing the gospel and teaching them to live like Jesus. This is the foundation of a Discipleship Ministry. Discipleship Ministry is the front door of the church where people come in and connect with a church family. Sunday School or small groups serve as the primary avenues to accomplish this task. Meet the Discipleship Team
Dr. Doug Matlock
Discipleship and Small Groups Ministry Partner
Doug loves Jesus, his family, and serving others. Some of his earliest memories are singing hymns with his grandparents at First Baptist Church in Checotah. He gave his life to Christ when he was eight years old at a Vacation Bible School in Ada, which led him and his family to start attending church. Doug serves as the Discipleship and Small Groups Ministry Partner for Oklahoma Baptists, serving Baptist churches across the state and helping strengthen discipleship ministries. Prior to working for Oklahoma Baptists, Doug served in the local church in Oklahoma for over eighteen years. He also loves music, coffee, food, traveling with his family, hiking, sports, and great stories. His greatest passion is serving others to help them grow in their relationships with Christ.
